Steve Halls - Brain-Based Therapist, Keystone Therapy Perth
Accredited Therapist PREPARE/ENRICH Facilitator Brain-Based Therapy ARCHR²™ Developer Telehealth Certified

Therapy grounded in science, delivered with humanity

I'm Steve — therapist, researcher, and the founder of Keystone Therapy in Perth. I developed the ARCHR²™ framework after years of clinical work, training in neuroscience-informed therapies, and a deep personal conviction that the most effective therapy isn't the most complicated — it's the most honest.

"I want clients to leave not just feeling better, but understanding themselves better. That understanding is what makes change stick."

My approach draws on brain-based neuro-therapy, lifestyle mental health research, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-informed relational work. I hold specialist experience in anxiety, ADHD and neurodiversity, depression, men's mental health, and couples therapy — including as a qualified PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator.

Before establishing Keystone Therapy, I worked across a range of clinical and community settings. That breadth has shaped a practice that is deeply collaborative — I work with you, not at you.

I see clients in person in Perth and via telehealth across Western Australia and nationally. If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, I offer a free initial consultation so we can explore that together, with no obligation.

Anxiety Counselling

Perth's brain-informed approach to anxiety — working with your nervous system, not against it.

You're not broken. Your nervous system is doing its job.

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy — and one of the most misunderstood. The racing thoughts, the physical tension, the avoidance, the "what ifs" — these aren't signs of weakness. They're signs of a nervous system that has learned to protect you, often at significant cost.

At Keystone Therapy, anxiety therapy begins with understanding the biology. When we understand why anxiety shows up the way it does, it becomes far less frightening — and far more workable.

What we address

Our approach

Using the ARCHR²™ Framework, we map your anxiety response — where it lives in the body, what triggers it, what maintains it — and build a personalised pathway through it. This includes nervous system regulation strategies, cognitive restructuring, and where appropriate, somatic and brain-based techniques.

We help you build practical strategies for coping, regulation and meaningful pattern change.

Start with an initial appointment

We can talk about what you're experiencing, clarify the pattern and identify the most appropriate next step.

ADHD & Neurodiversity Support

Therapy that works with your brain — not against it.

A different brain, not a deficient one.

ADHD is widely misunderstood. It's not about laziness, poor motivation, or a lack of intelligence — it's a neurological difference in how the brain regulates attention, impulse, and emotion. For many adults, the diagnosis comes late, after years of struggling to understand why things that seem easy for others feel so hard.

At Keystone Therapy, ADHD therapy is built around understanding your unique neurotype — and then building strategies, structures, and self-compassion that fit the way you actually think.

Counselling for Life & Emotional Wellbeing

Sometimes life is hard and a steady, skilled presence makes all the difference.

You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from therapy

General therapy at Keystone Therapy covers the wide territory of human experience — grief, burnout, identity, life transitions, depression, low mood, relationship difficulty, self-esteem, meaning, and more.

Sometimes what's needed most isn't a clinical intervention — it's a thinking space. A place where you can slow down, be honest, and start to understand what's happening beneath the surface.

Presentations we commonly work with

Our style

We don't do formulaic therapy. We listen carefully, adapt to what you need, and work at your pace. The goal is not to make you dependent on therapy — it's to help you build the internal resources to live well without it.

Not sure where to start?

That's fine. Make a booking and we'll figure it out together.

Couples Therapy

Rebuilding connection, communication, and trust — with science on your side.

Every relationship hits hard patches. What matters is what you do next.

Couples therapy at Keystone Therapy is grounded in two powerful evidence bases: the PREPARE/ENRICH framework — one of the most researched relationship assessment and intervention tools in the world — and brain-based relational therapy, which helps partners understand why they react the way they do and how to build healthier patterns together.

We work with couples navigating

What PREPARE/ENRICH adds

PREPARE/ENRICH is a validated assessment tool that identifies each couple's unique strengths and growth areas across communication, conflict resolution, sexuality, finances, family dynamics, and more. It gives therapy a concrete starting point and a clear direction — so sessions feel purposeful, not aimless.

Both partners don't need to be ready at the same level

Couples therapy works best when at least one person is willing to try. Book an Appointment and let's talk about where you're at.

Brain-Based Therapy

Therapy informed by how the brain actually changes — not just how we think it should.

Neuroscience has changed what's possible in therapy

The last two decades of brain science have transformed our understanding of emotion, learning, habit, and change. Brain-based therapy at Keystone Therapy draws on this research — including neuroplasticity, stress physiology, interpersonal neurobiology and regulation science — in a coherent, practical approach to meaningful change.

This is therapy that helps connect insight with nervous system regulation, behaviour change and practical daily-life application.

What this looks like in practice

Who benefits most

Brain-based therapy may be helpful for anxiety, trauma-related patterns, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, and long-standing relational patterns that have not shifted through insight alone. It is also deeply valuable as an educational process — understanding your own neurology is profoundly empowering.

Curious about brain-based therapy?

Make a booking and Steve will walk you through whether this approach is right for you.

Proprietary Framework

The ARCHR²™ Framework

A structured, science-grounded model for understanding and transforming human experience.

Why a framework matters

Therapy without structure can drift. The ARCHR²™ Framework was developed by Steve at Keystone Therapy to provide a coherent, sequential map through the change process — one grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory, and clinical experience across diverse presentations.

ARCHR²™ is not a rigid protocol. It is a clinical organising framework — a way of understanding where someone is in their process and what they most need next. The five-layer model provides both assessment and treatment direction.

The six pillars

How ARCHR²™ shapes your sessions

Every session at Keystone Therapy is informed by ARCHR²™ — though you may never hear the acronym itself. It shapes the sequence of work, the choice of techniques, and the way progress is monitored. Clients often describe it as "therapy that feels like it's going somewhere."

Experience the ARCHR²™ Framework in practice

What makes telehealth at Keystone different

Is telehealth as effective?

Research and clinical experience suggest telehealth can be highly effective for many presentations, including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and ADHD support. Some clients find they engage more openly in their own environment. We can discuss what is most appropriate for your situation.

If you're unsure whether telehealth is right for your situation, the free 15-minute consult is a good place to find out.
